Our Program - Why Burros?
We fill a small niche in the process of burro rescue. Burros
are at great risk as human population takes over areas they
have normally inhabited. Plus, since they have adapted so
well, there are too many of them in some areas. There are
a number of groups that rescue burros from these situations.
Burros that have been captured from the wild have not learned
how to deal with humans. Many times the humans don't understand
how to train the animals. This can result in burros being
mistreated (because they are misunderstood and afraid), or
being sent to auction or slaughter. Some of the burros we
take come from the organizations that do the initial capture.
We teach them the basic skill set they need to be around humans.
Then, when they are adopted they are ready to be in a domestic
situation. This benefits the capture organizations as well
as potential adopters.
