Our Program - How We Do It
What makes this organization different is that we work with
a very small number of animals. The program is tailored to
the individual needs of each animal, and each animal receives
a large amount of individualized attention. There is no time
limit on when we expect an animal to complete the phases of
their training. There are no fear tactics used in training.
The animal learns things one step at a time. If that means
progress looks like coming two steps closer to the handler,
that's fine. We play on the animal's natural curiosity and
try to make each training session enjoyable for both the animal
and the human.
We introduce new things to the edge of the animal's comfort
level, but not to the point of fear. We believe that all animals
are capable of learning the basic skills, it just may take
time in the ones that have been abused.
We give the animals a large amount of space to play in. We
also allow the rescue animals to mix with the other domesticated
animals at the facility. Since these animals are relaxed and
happy, it helps the other animals learn. We try to pair newer
animals up with calmer more experienced animals.
We believe that by working with a small number of animals
they get more attention, and are thus better companions when
they are adopted out. It is the goal to adopt every rescued
animal out to a new home. However, if they are not able to
do the basic things then they will not be put up for adoption.
Since we are a no kill facility animals that cannot be rehabilitated
will become permanent residents at the rescue.
