How You Can Help - Adopt
Once the animals have been through the process of retraining
and rehabilitation they are put up for adoption. Potential
adopters are carefully screened to ensure that the animals
go to new homes where they will be well loved and cared for.
We try match animals and people that are compatible. Many
times there is an almost immediate attraction to a particular
animal. We like the adopter to spend time with their animal
prior to taking them home. We want them to learn as much as
possible about their animal, and its history and re-training.
When we can, we like to match adopters with their animals
when the animals arrive. This allows the adopter to be involved
in the entire rehabilitation and/or domestication processes.
There is a special bond that forms between the human and their
animal companion when they've gone through the process together.
Required for adoption
- Animal and prospective adopter must demonstrate a good
match by spending time together and exhibiting compatibility.
- Fill out adoption agreement. Horsefriends Large Animal
Rescue Inc. retains ownership for 12 months. After that
time there will be a follow up, and if the adoption is still
working for both the human and their companion ownership
will pass to the adopter.
- Be willing to have a site check
- Complete education process on animal care, or demonstrate
sufficient knowledge
- Pay adoption fee. The fee is paid when you take the animal
home and is non-refundable.
We reserve the right to take the animal at any time if we
feel they are being abused or neglected. We are also glad
to take any animal back if the owner's situation changes or
they can no longer care for the animal.
